We really did it, didn’t we?

I’ve been wanting to take an extended amount of time to travel the world for as long as I can remember.  Actually, I think what inspired this dream in the first place was my cousins, Alex and Christian, taking a career break abroad back when I was in high school.

So now, 17 years after that idea… it’s really happening. Time flies. And this week Cale and I both gave notice at work, so we’re either unemployed or we’re taking this trip!

Now, amidst making suggestions to employers on how to re-structure our teams at work, I’ve been caught up with issues like “Oh crap which shoes should I bring with me? I’m sure Southeast Asia won’t carry my gigantic shoe size,” and “The Ghana embassy only communicates via email and they aren’t responding to my emailed questions, how do I make sure I’m getting the right kind of visa?” and “What the hell is the Schengen agreement? Why can we only stay in Europe for 90 out of 180 days, at risk of getting fined and deported?” Oh, and I can’t forget this one: “HOLY CRAP WHAT THE HELL DID WE JUST DO?”

So, the blog is half journal, half way to stay connected.  Hopefully our friends and family will read and enjoy!  We would LOVE to get feedback and suggestions on what to do in our various destinations and welcome comments here!

  1. Yikes! We are leaving Dingle in 16 hours. You’ll love it . Catch us if you can, we are off to Galway…..

  2. Finally found your blog. Met you briefly in Dingle with John & Merideth on our Rick Steve’s to or. Enjoy seeing where your travels take you. Have fun.

  3. YES! Have the time of your lives! I did this in the 70’s, and one of the most memorable place I visited was the coziest castle in the world, in Vevey, Switzerland. Definately worth the trip, right on the West side of Lake Geneva.
